Solder wire for the Apex Hand Soldering Competition
Solder wire B2012 is odorless and shows excellent soldering and wetting performance
The Balver Zinn Group was sponsoring the fourth annual IPC Apex Expo Hand Soldering Competition. Cobar Solder Products contributed Balver Zinn’s Brilliant B2012 SAC305 (SN97C) solder wire is halide-free, rosin based and designed for manual and robotic soldering. B2012 is odorless and shows excellent soldering and wetting performance. The no-clean, halide free solder wire was developed for rework and touch-up. The solution is available in the SN100C, SAC305 (SN97C), Sn63 alloys with a standard flux content of 2.2 percent. Balver Zinn wires are available in diameters from 0.3 to 3.5mm.

During this one-day finals competition, participants competed to build a functional electronics assembly in 60 minutes. Assemblies are judged on soldering in accordance with IPC-A-610E criteria, the speed at which the assembly was produced, and overall electrical functionality of assembly. IPC-A-610E Master Instructors served as the judges.
Metcal was pleased to announce that it had awarded the winner of this competition with an MX-5210 Metcal Soldering System. Min Seok Kim, with Samsung Thales Co., Ltd., Korea, also was awarded $1,000 by the IPC. Min Seok Kim earned his way into the world championship by becoming the Korea champion last year. He competed against eight other contestants from around the globe during the world championship round. Kim mentioned that he uses the Metcal system on the job in Korea.
