Adhesive technology is a forward-thinking sector and offers great potential for optimising both job and series production in industry. The Novasil range offers a wide variety of sealants and adhesives, and potting compounds based on silicon, polyurethane and hybrid technologies for industrial customers who value durable quality and reliable performance. Novasil is a brand of Otto-Chemie, part of Hermann Otto GmbH, a European manufacturer of sealants, adhesives, potting compounds and coating agents for industry, construction and artisan trades.

Conform silicon potting compounds

Silicon-based potting compounds protect sensitive electronic components from moisture, dust and dirt, and mechanical stress. They can also be used to fill cavities. The company presents Novasil S 651 and the S 151: 2-component silicon potting compounds that meet the stringent requirements of the highest UL Classification v-0. Its excellent flow properties make Novasil S 651 particularly suitable for potting electronic components, cables, sleeves and printed circuit boards. Novasil S 151 also has very low electrical conductivity, yet good thermal conductivity.

Safe potting of electronic components

The company presents Novasil S 803 and the S 822: neutral-curing, alkoxy-based silicon potting compounds that have been tested and licensed according to the UL Flame Classification 94 HB. Both products have excellent mechanical properties, which can absorb and minimise any tension caused by vibration or fluctuating temperatures within electronic components.

Novasil S 803 cures at room temperature and adheres well to a wide variety of substrates. Its flow properties make it ideal for coating electronic components to protect them from environmental and weather conditions. It also has a UV-indicator for easy quality control during and after application.

Novasil S 822 is a fast-curing 2-component silicon potting compound with a mixing ratio of 10:1. The product can be used with all standard dosing systems. It has an excellent electrical insulating effect and good flow properties. This 2-component silicon potting compound can be used with a fast B component (Ottocure S-CA 2205; pot life at 23 °C approx. 10 minutes) as well as the slower B component Ottocure S-CA 2420 (pot life at 23 °C approx. 30 minutes). Other pot lives are available on request.

Protecting electronic components from overheating

Electronic components are becoming ever more compact. As a result, temperatures can reach up to 180 °C at the interfaces and within the components themselves at times. Novasil S 800 is a neutral-curing 1-component alkoxy-based silicon adhesive with excellent temperature resistance, making it a suitable product for these components and which conforms to UL Flame Classification 94 HB. It also has good mechanical properties. Available in white and black.

Electrical components with high temperature exposure

Sealants and adhesives resistant to high temperatures open new optimisation potentials wherever things get hot. Otto presents Novasil S 805 and Novasil S 806, two products for elastic bonding and sealing that reliably withstand prolonged temperature exposure of 250 °C. They adhere extremely well to a number of different substrates; S 805 perfectly without primer, S 806 may require a primer. Both products are suitable for the inside panes of ovens, their doors, mounting brackets, mouldings and door handles – in short, any component where the bonded surfaces are exposed to very high temperatures.
