Renesas Electronics, a supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, announced that it has been honored with the Hardware Innovation Award, part of the hardware innovation category for innovative development in advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving. The award ceremony was held during AutoSens on September 20 at the Atomium in Brussels, Belgium. This award acknowledges the greatest design, technical and marketing innovations within the automotive imaging sector. It recognizes a recent hardware product, technical team or company that has contributed most to the technical development of vehicle perception.

“Renesas caused a stir with a combination of an exciting new approach to collaboration and engagement as they launched their new autonomy-focused processors,” said Rob Stead, Managing Director of Sense Media Group, Conference Director of AutoSens. “The company has created numerous exciting semiconductors for use in the automotive and particularly for ADAS fields, and we are pleased to see these efforts recognized with our award for Hardware Innovation.”

Part of this international vehicle perception conference and exhibition, the awards, running for the first time in 2017, were judged by an expert panel drawn from OEMs, Tier 1s and Tier 2s, industry organizations and academia to assure a fair valuation process. One of the judging panel commented: “The judging panel were impressed by the company’s continuing and steadily increasing investment in the autonomous processing space, particularly in their latest processors which offer impressive performance to power consumption ratios.”

“The award recognizes our commitment to deliver open, innovative and trusted solutions for ADAS and automated driving,” said Jean-Francois Chouteau, Vice President of the company’s Global ADAS Centre. “Our aim is to contribute to safe and progressive autonomous-driving vehicles. Under the Renesas autonomy platform, we deliver a trusted scalable hardware lineup that accelerates development of automotive systems, enabling faster-time-to-market and room for creativity.”

To contribute to the upcoming autonomous-driving era, the company has been offering ADAS and automated driving solutions as part of its autonomy platform. This leverages the company’s experience and expertise in the automotive market as a leading automotive semiconductor supplier, offering end-to-end solutions from secure cloud connectivity and sensing to vehicle control.
